My family and I watched The Great British Baking Show the other night, and I have to say it’s pretty entertaining. (I can’t binge watch it though.)
The contestants are a group of talented bakers who are competing for the title of “UK’s Best,” baker. The chefs have skills most of us can only dream about, and like all sporting events (a sport?) they not only have to compete against each other…but they’re racing against “the clock.”
Time is the “great equalizer.” (Not thyme, but time. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)
“I don’t know if I have enough time,” is a common lament in contests like this. I think the rest of the sentence is implied, and sounds something like this, “I don’t know if I have enough time to finish.” Or more likely, “I don’t know if I have enough time to do it well.”
The time constraints make for better entertainment, and a better contest, but they don’t lead to better desserts. The same can be said for custom jewelry design and jewelry repair.
When our goldsmith sits down to create a custom design, or refurbish a family heirloom, she doesn’t approach it like she’s on a British Baking Show.
It’s not a race against the clock, it’s a time to “make it right.”
No shortcuts or material substitutions are allowed when she’s working. It’s done correctly, using state-of-the art equipment, and a steady, artist’s hand. The results are spectacular. (Can I get an “Amen!” You can put it in the comments below.)
Quicker is not better when it comes to making and repairing fine jewelry. The right amount of time is best.
That is our way. Done upstairs, with the utmost skill and care. Every time.
Thank you for reading, and for being one of our friends and clients. We appreciate it more than I can say.
All the best,
